Today we make a reflection on the car tax . As you know, since January 1, 2008 the percentage of tax is variable depending on the level of CO2 emissions per kilometer. It varies between being free for vehicles emitting less than 120 g CO2 per kilometer, up 14.75%, for vehicles emitting over 200 g of CO2 per kilometer. This tax is much fairer and is better adapted to reality than the previous, which was based only on the cylinder, which differed from 7% (for less than 1.6 petrol and 2.0 diesel) and 12% (upper cylinder engine), the which had become obsolete.
Now let's assume the following situation: A person buys a Renault Twingo 1.5 dCi with a contamination rate of 113 g / km, which pay no tax. Another person buys a Hummer H3 3.7 with an emission level of 330 g / km, paying 14.75% of road tax (about 7,000 €).
The Twingo is used to go to work every day, covering 100 km daily, however only use the Hummer for a spin on weekends, traveling about 20 miles per day. Pollution generated by these two cases each week is:
Renault Twingo 1.5 dCi:
113 g / km x 100 km daily x 5 days of use = 56,500 g of CO2 per week
Hummer H3 3.7:
330 g / km x 20 km daily x 2 days of use = 13,200 g of CO2 per week
In this case, the Twingo is about 4 times more polluted than the Hummer. From this we deduce that buy a car that pollutes not contaminated. What pollution is to use! right thing would be to apply the tax on motor fuels but gasoline is already very expensive to apply more taxes, which currently represent 60% of total.
